Valencia defender Adil Rami has played down talk of a move to Manchester United.

The French centre back is aware of speculation which has linked him with a switch to the English champions, but insists he is only focused on lifting a major trophy with Los Che.

Rami only joined Valencia last summer after helping Lille to the Ligue 1 title, but he has quickly built on his reputation as an up and coming talent with a series of stellar displays at the Mestalla.

And the 26-year-old was quickly said to be a target for Sir Alex Ferguson in some quarters.

Despite the news reaching Rami’s ears, he is staying focused on the job at hand.

"Okay, but this is something to sell newspapers", the Frenchman insisted to Valencia daily Superdeporte, before tackling the rumour head on.

"Yes, okay, I’m doing well.

"It’s for the club to say if one day I go to a big club. But I’m in no hurry to leave."

Rami would also not be drawn on whether playing in England or continuing to play in Spain would suit him best, with the defender explaining he can see the pros and cons of each country.

"In Spain, it’s very good. It’s different.

"In England, much more depends on physical things and I’m fortunate enough to have a good physique. But here you can play more."
