Arsenal, Sunderland and Manchester City On Lucas Barrios Trail

Saturday, 28th January, 2012

Three English clubs are in the hunt for Borussia Dortmund striker Lucas Barrios.

According to German daily Bild, Arsenal, Sunderland and Manchester City are all considering swooping for the Paraguayan, with the €10M fee the Bundesliga champions are looking for well within reach for the trio.

Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp may even be willing to allow Barrios to leave before the winter window slams shut after Mohamed Zidan’s expected switch to former club Mainz fell through – Klopp was reluctant to lose two strikers this month.

Dortmund have remained tight-lipped on growing chatter of a departure for Barrios however, with sporting director Michael Zorc commenting: "It’s our policy not to speak about transfer speculation."

Barrios is under contract with Dortmund until 2014 and has impressed since joining the club in 2009 from Chilean outfit Colo Colo.

Despite being born in Argentina and starting his career in his homeland, Barrios qualified to play for Paraguay through his mother and has so far appeared 21 times for the South American country.
