Arsenal are already making moves to line up new signings for the summer, and high on Arsene Wenger’s shopping list is Argentine midfielder Claudio Yacob.
The 24-year-old, who currently captains Racing Club, sees his contract expire in June and the cash-strapped Argentine outfit are ready to bid farewell to one of their highest earners.
And Wenger has been alerted to this prospect, with sources in Argentina suggesting that the Frenchman has already made moves to sound out Yacob’s representatives over a potential switch to the Emirates.
The Gunners boss is looking to reinforce a midfielder which has, at times, lacked bite this season, and the all-action Yacob could fill a void Wenger has identified.
Yacob’s stock is high within Argentina and the player has a long history of being recognised at international level, with his play at times being compared to that of Javier Mascherano.
The Racing Club youth product featured for Argentina’s Under-20 squad at the 2007 South American Youth Championship, while he also won the 2007 FIFA Under-20 World Cup.
There is sure to be much competition for Yacob’s signature, though the midfielder, who has won three caps for his country, is believed to be open to a move to England.
