Real Madrid defender Raul Albiol has emerged as a potential summer transfer target for Manchester City, according to Spanish radio station Cadena Ser.

Albiol has been disappointed to slip down the pecking order at the Bernabeu this season and has grown concerned for his future with Los Blancos.

A change of scenery for the former Valencia stopper has been speculated for some time, and it does appear that Europe’s elite are well aware that Albiol is likely to be available in the summer.

Citizens’ boss Roberto Mancini recently confirmed that new strikers are not on his agenda, lending weight to talk that the order of the day at Eastlands will be defensive additions when the club come to strengthen their squad.

Albiol is likely to be attracted to the idea of a switch to England, with signing on at City not at all being viewed as a step down from Real Madrid by the centre back.

The Spaniard has clocked up just five appearances in La Liga this season, appearing twice in the Champions League and twice in the Copa del Rey; a run of game time which has given him cause to fear for his place in Spain’s Euro 2012 party.

The 26-year-old joined Real Madrid in 2009 from Valencia for a fee of around €15M.
