Ottmar Hitzfeld Backs Xherdan Shaqiri to be Bayern Munich Success

Friday, 10th February, 2012

New Bayern Munich signing Xherdan Shaqiri has been tipped to shine at the Allianz Arena by Switzerland coach Ottmar Hitzfeld.

Shaqiri will arrive at Bayern Munich in the summer, having signed a four-year deal, while a fee of €13M will be payable to Basel for the schemer’s services.

Jupp Heynckes’ men have had their eye on Shaqiri for some time and the German side’s move has been hailed by the player’s coach at international level.

“Xherdan is an exceptional player”, said Hitzfeld.

"He is a totally committed footballer, who always goes looking for the ball. He would be good for any team.

“Joining Bayern is the right step for him. He has the confidence to pull it off, I think it will work for him.”

The 20-year-old had been tipped to leave Basel last summer, but remained to help the St. Jakob Park outfit into the last 16 of this season’s Champions League.
