Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho admits his side now have a margin for error in La Liga after opening up a ten-point lead over bitter rivals Barcelona.
Josep Guardiola’s reigning champions surprisingly lost at Osasuna (3-2) on Saturday and Real Madrid did not miss the chance to extend a lead which was already at seven points on Sunday, by beating Levante 4-2, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring a spectacular hat-trick.
And now Los Blancos enjoy a lead of ten points which, even if Barcelona win the remaining Clasico between the two teams, will still stand at seven points.
Mourinho then, understandably, is confident.
"The road is still long", cautioned the Portuguese.
"But of course, this gives us a ten-point margin of error.
"If we lose, it will be an extreme situation."
Real Madrid are next in action at the weekend, when Racing Santander come to the Bernabeu; it is another game Mourinho’s men will expect to win.
