Inter coach Claudio Ranieri has apologised to the club’s fans and president Massimo Moratti after the Nerazzurri slumped to a shock 3-0 home defeat to Bologna.
Ranieri had led Inter to a resurgence in recent months, although saw that progress suffer a setback against Napoli in the Coppa Italia, since which time the club’s renewed challenge has crumbled.
Following the Napoli defeat, Inter could only draw with Palermo (4-4) lose at Roma (4-0), lose at home to Novara (1-0) and now have tasted defeat to Bologna.
Now Ranieri’s men lie 11 points behind league leaders AC Milan, but have played a game more.
"It’s a difficult period", said the former Chelsea boss post-match.
"We take responsibility and we apologise to the fans and to the president."
Now Inter must switch their focus, with a Champions League clash against Marseille to come next week.
