Guus Hiddink has insisted that he has not taken over at wealthy Russian Premier League side Anzhi Makhachkala for the money.
The former Real Madrid boss has signed an 18-month contract with the Dagestan giants and will be paid around €10M per year.
Anzhi have been searching for a big coaching name for some time, with the hope being that Hiddink will attract more household names, to follow the likes of Samuel Eto’o and Roberto Carlos, to the club.
And while Hiddink’s arrival may not have been possible without the substantial backing of billionaire Suleyman Kerimov, the Dutchman has claimed not to be at the club just to pocket riches.
"If I wanted to go somewhere just for financial reasons, I would have accepted the offers that I received from China and Mexico", said Hiddink.
"At Anzhi I will be able to help to build and develop the team."
