Germany coach Joachim Loew has refused to be drawn into commenting on speculation that he is Chelsea’s first choice target to succeed Andre Villas-Boas on a permanent basis at Stamford Bridge.

Loew has been consistently linked with the Chelsea post since Villas-Boas was sacked last weekend and the German’s easy-on-the-eye brand of attacking football is believed to have impressed Roman Abramovich.

A successful Euro 2012 would only bolster Loew’s case, but the former Austria Vienna manager is not prepared to even think about taking over at Chelsea at the present time.

"My goal is the European Championships in the summer and I’m focusing entirely on that", said the 52-year-old when questioned about talk he is a target for the Blues.

"Therefore there is not any room at the moment for other thoughts."

And despite being pushed further on the subject, Loew was intransigent.

"I’m not going to participate in this speculation.

"I mean, this is today and tomorrow is another day. But I must be clear that for me there is only the European Championships."

Loew is under contract with Germany until 2014, with the plan for the country being that the coach will lead the side to the World Cup in Brazil.

The German assumed control of the national team in 2006 after a spell as assistant to Jurgen Klinsmann.
