Roberto Carlos has admitted that Anzhi Makhachkala could try to sign Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi when the pair finish their respective contracts at Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Money is no object for the wealthy Russian Premier League side and the club recently appointed Guus Hiddink as their new coach, further adding to the wage bill in Dagestan.

Carlos himself has hung up his boots, but still has a role off the pitch with the Russian side and enjoys a good relationship with the club’s billionaire owner Suleyman Kerimov.

"We can try when they’ve completed their contracts here", the former left back told Radio Marca.

And if Anzhi Makhachkala could be successful in signing only one of the world class duo, Carlos is not picky and would take either to Dagestan.

"Leo is currently the world’s best player; Cristiano is the reference point of Madrid; and I have no preference for either."

Anzhi Makhachkala are bidding to establish themselves as one of Europe’s biggest sides. The wealthy Russian club have already bought stars such as Samuel Eto’o, Yuri Zhirkov and Christopher Samba.

And were there any hope of signing either Ronaldo or Messi, the boat would undoubtedly be pushed out.
