Real Madrid are believed to have joined the list of clubs interested in Ajax full back Gregory van der Wiel.

The Dutchman recently came close to leaving the Amsterdam ArenA after Valencia pushed ahead with moves to sign him, but the Spanish giants would not pay Ajax’s asking price, thought to be around the €10M mark.

Affording such a sum will not be difficult for Real Madrid, and the 24-year-old is a genuine possibility for Los Blancos.

Jose Mourinho wants to add an attacking full back to his squad over the summer, with the Portuguese believing an alternative to Alvaro Arbeloa would be a worthwhile addition.

And Van der Wiel, who was ready to head to the Mestalla, would surely jump at a switch to the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid however are not the only team in the market for the Holland star, with English outfit Chelsea and Italian side Roma also keeping a close watch on Van der Wiel’s situation.

The Dutchman is only looking likely to move to one of Europe’s elite, with the defender having expressed his with to stay at Ajax unless one of the game’s giants comes calling – Real Madrid would certainly fit the bill.
