Borussia Monchengladbach are preparing to move for Manchester City starlet John Guidetti after being impressed with the Swedish hitman’s exploits on loan at Feyenoord last season.

Die Fohlen have had their sights set on FC Twente forward Luuk de Jong, but are well aware that competition for the Dutchman is fierce – and so Guidetti has been identified as a realistic alternative.

The 20-year-old was in sensational form for Feyenoord in the Eredivisie, notching 20 goals in 23 league games; indeed so successful was Guidetti that the Dutch side’s faithful started a petition in an effort to keep the Swede.

That looks unlikely to be successful however, and Guidetti is set to head back to Manchester City for pre-season training.

The striker recently suffered the heartache of missing out on a spot in Sweden’s Euro 2012 squad after being struck down by injury. That though will not dent his ambition and Guidetti has already given the Citizens warning that he will not warm the bench at Eastlands.

In an exclusive interview, he told Inside Futbol "I’m looking for a club that tells me ‘John, you are our first or second striker. Here’s the number 9 or 10 shirt’."

Under contract with Roberto Mancini’s men until 2014, Guidetti will not come cheap for Gladbach.

However, the Bundesliga side are flush with cash following the sale of Marco Reus to Borussia Dortmund for €17.5M.
