Liverpool have been linked with a swoop for Spanish midfielder Raul Garcia.
While the Reds have been mooted as being keen on La Liga stars Javier Mascherano, Xabi Alonso (both former Liverpool players), sources within Spain have indicated that the club’s true target is Garcia.
The 25-year-old spent 2011/12 on loan from Atletico Madrid at fellow La Liga outfit Osasuna – and impressed.
A virtual ever-present in coach Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side, Garcia helped Osasuna to record a highly notable finish of seventh in last season’s La Liga.
The midfielder also grabbed goals from the centre of the park, supporting Osasuna’s attacking efforts with eleven goals in 33 La Liga games.
Despite this though, Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid are open to selling Garcia for the right price and a switch to the English Premier League would surely appeal to the 25-year-old.
Garcia is a product of Osasuna’s youth system, progressing to the club’s first team before eventually being sold to Atletico Madrid in 2007 for €13M.
He made 20 appearances for Spain’s Under-21 side between 2006 and 2009.
