Marseille defender Cesar Azpilicueta has admitted that he may have to move to a bigger club if he is to fulfill his dream of playing for Spain.

The highly-rated 22-year-old full back was heavily linked with Chelsea last season and, having ruptured his cruciate ligaments towards the end of 2010, has rediscovered his early promise.

Now Azpilicueta is one of Marseille’s most capable performers and there is widely believed to be more to come from the former Osasuna man.

But his fine displays at the Stade Velodrome, combined with a quarter-final Champions League appearance, have not been enough to earn a call-up to Vicente del Bosque’s Spain squad, leading Azpilicueta to believe he might have to leave Marseille.

"My dream is to play for the national team", Azpilicueta told Sportmag.

"I want to play for a club that allows me to achieve this goal.

"This year we [Marseille] played in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and that’s not bad in terms of international level.

"If however, we had been the champions this year, it would have been easier for me, which is a shame. But it is like that, that’s the reality and we must accept this."

Marseille, facing budgetary problems, could choose to sell Azpilicueta if the right offer arrives.
