Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has admitted that Luka Modric is likely to leave White Hart Lane this summer and confirmed talks are under way to that effect.

The Croatian playmaker is known to be keen to move on, with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain interested in acquiring his services.

And Villas-Boas, who has only just taken over as Spurs boss, accepts that Modric wants to play his football elsewhere and return to the Champions League.

“The interest we have had from various clubs shows the importance of the player and what he has done for Tottenham”, said Villas-Boas at a press conference.

“It is fair to say that the club respects Luka’s ambitions and his willingness to move on and he respects the fact that he is an important player for us and can help the club to move on.”

Villas-Boas also confirmed that talks are taking place surrounding Modric’s exit.

“Ongoing discussions will continue with these clubs until we reach an agreement which is acceptable for each party.”
