Brazilian striker Nilmar has decided to jump ship and is very close to penning a big money contract with Qatari side Al-Rayyan.

Nilmar is on the verge of leaving Villarreal after playing for the Yellow Submarine for three seasons. The 27-year-old joined the Spanish club in 2009 from Internacional and made 85 appearances for the team in La Liga, scoring 26 goals.

Nilmar is just one of the players who is about to leave Villarreal after the club was shockingly relegated last season.

The striker’s former employers Internacional were leading the chase for the forward until recently and there were strong indications that the Brazilian international would be heading back to his native country.

However, Internacional cooled their interest in the forward after snapping up Uruguayan Diego Forlan, while the Brazilian hitman also showed little urgency in agreeing a deal with the club he represented from 2002 until 2004 and from 2007 to 2009, after Qatari side Al-Rayyan came in with a big money contract for him.

It can now be confirmed that the 27-year-old forward has almost completed his transfer to Al-Rayyan after he agreed terms with the Qatari outfit.

The team’s official website said in a statement, “Nilmar is about to put his signature to our contract offer.”

The striker’s departure will be a big blow for the El Madrigal outfit as the club starts a tough struggle to earn promotion back to La Liga.
