Andrei Arshavin believes that Fabio Capello has been appointed as the new coach of Russia.

The Russian Football Union is due to make an announcement on who will succeed Dick Advocaat next week, but Arshavin has claimed that former England boss Capello will get the job.

Capello has been in Moscow for talks with Russia’s sports minister Vitaly Mutko, who admitted to being impressed with the Italian. Mutko even compared Capello with successful former coach Guus Hiddink.

"Fabio Capello has been appointed as the new head coach of the Russian national team", Arshavin announced on his official website.

"We wish him success in his new position."

Should Capello be appointed he will be taking the job at a crucial time.

Russia are due to host the 2018 World Cup and there is also concern about the lack of young players in the country’s national team.
