Newcastle United have made a move for Liverpool striker Andy Carroll, according to multiple reports in England.

The Magpies have offered to take Carroll on loan for next season, with a view to buying the hitman permanently at the end of the 2012/13 campaign.

Carroll was sold by Newcastle to Liverpool in the 2011 January transfer window, for a price of £35M. He has though struggled for form at Anfield.

The powerful striker endured a prolonged poor spell with the Reds last season before discovering some form before the end of the campaign and playing a key role in helping Liverpool to reach the FA Cup final.

He also travelled with England to Euro 2012, a sign he is still considered amongst the country’s best strikers, and found the back of the net against Sweden with an impressive powerful header.

The future of the 23-year-old at Liverpool though has been in doubt of late, especially when new boss Brendan Rodgers admitted that loaning the forward out would be something he will consider.

Liverpool have also moved to bring in another striker in the form of Italian Fabio Borini.

Nevertheless, loaning out a player who cost £35M and had begun to show signs of form out would be a bold move from Rodgers, while also enduring that Liverpool take a huge loss on Carroll who, at 23, still has much time to fulfil his undoubted potential.
