Holland international Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has indicated that he is ready to sit down and extend his contract with Schalke.

Huntelaar’s current deal with the Ruhr giants expires next summer and Schalke have been desperate to sign the former Inter striker to a new agreement.

However, Huntelaar put talks on hold until after Euro 2012 and is also thought to have been watching Schalke’s moves in the transfer market for a sign of their ambitions for the coming season.

Now though the forward, who scored a remarkable 48 goals in 48 games last season for his club, is ready to talk.

"I am ready to start talks with Schalke", said the Dutchman at a press conference.

"We will meet in the coming weeks and months to discuss extending my contract", he added.

"I want to play an important role in this team and I am ready to take on more responsibility."

Huntelaar is rated as one of Schalke’s most vital players. He can surely expect a bumper pay rise and a lucrative deal if he chooses to put pen to paper in Gelsenkirchen.
