Feyenoord defender Ron Vlaar has admitted to being impressed by Aston Villa after visiting the English club over the weekend.

Vlaar made the trip to Villa Park with his agent and met up with the English side’s manager Paul Lambert; the visit was cleared with Feyenoord beforehand.

The Dutch club will reluctantly sell Vlaar for the right price, given his desire to play in one of Europe’s biggest leagues – and the defender has only positive impressions of Aston Villa.

“I can’t say that much”, Vlaar told De Telegraaf.

“I was in Birmingham on Sunday and I spoke with the coach Paul Lambert and it all made a positive impression.

“Aston Villa want me and I’m happy about that.”

The Midlands club are believed to have offered €4M for Vlaar, who insists it is now up to the clubs to negotiate.

“It’s up to the clubs to negotiate. If the deal goes through, I will miss Feyenoord. But I’ll be glad Feyenoord made a nice amount if I’ve left.”
