Marseille defender Cesar Azpilicueta is still attracting interest from Champions League winners Chelsea, but two other English Premier League teams may also join the hunt.

According to La Provence, Liverpool and Newcastle can be added to the 22-year-old’s list of admirers as the chances of him remaining at the Stade Velodrome for next season start to dwindle.

Chelsea have long had Azpilicueta on their wanted list. So much so that in January the Spaniard even urged the Blues to talk to Marseille about agreeing a transfer.

In the turbulent days of poor performances under Andre Villas-Boas however, no bid arrived and Azpilicueta completed the season at the French giants.

Chelsea’s interest has not waned though and Azpilicueta has admitted that in order to break into Vicente del Bosque’s Spain squad the odds are that he will have to play his football at a bigger club than Marseille.

The Blues remain firm favourites to sign a player they have tracked for at least 12 months, but could face opposition for his signature.

Newcastle are now suitors, with Azpilicueta identified as a preferred option if a proposed swoop for Lille right-back Mathieu Debuchy does not go through, while Liverpool under Brendan Rodgers are also in the hunt.

There seems little doubt that Azpilicueta has his eyes fixed on moving to Stamford Bridge, having spoken of the possibility – but equally switches to St. James’ Park or Anfield are sure to appeal to the 22-year-old, who is keen to play in a bigger league.

Azpilicueta is set to be in action for Spain this summer at the 2012 London Olympic Games, offering all parties another chance to run the rule over the promising defender.
