Bayern Munich have registered their interest in Nigel de Jong with Manchester City.

According to Dutch daily De Telegraaf, the Bavarians want to know whether Roberto Mancini’s side will consider parting with the Holland international this summer.

The tough-tackling midfielder has just one year left on his contract at Manchester City, and while he has had some talks about extending that, playing time is a precious commodity at the English champions.

The Citizens are believed ready to listen to what Bayern Munich have to say regarding De Jong and will wait to see just how much the German giants are prepared to pay for the 27-year-old before coming to a decision.

Bayern Munich know all about the Dutchman, having seen him at close quarters during a three-year spell at Bundesliga outfit Hamburg.

Jupp Heynckes’ men have been firm fans of Athletic Bilbao midfielder Javi Martinez, but the Basque club have priced the Spaniard out of reach.

De Jong could be a worthwhile alternative for a side looking to reclaim the German title from Borussia Dortmund.

Whether the Dutchman will be open to a switch to the Allianz Arena remains to be seen, but the prospect of increased minutes on the pitch in Germany could be tempting.
