Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has hailed summer signing Nick Powell as “a very good talent”.

Powell was in action for Ferguson’s men in the side’s recent 1-1 friendly draw against Ajax Cape Town.

And the Manchester United boss was very encouraged by what he saw from the man he bought from Crewe Alexandra this summer.

“Nick Powell is a talented boy”, said Ferguson to his club’s official site after watching the 18-year-old impress as a substitute in the Ajax Cape Town clash.

“He missed some training and 30 minutes was stretching him a bit in terms of sharpness, but the boy is a very good talent”, added the legendary manager.

Powell was highly rated at Crewe and emerged from the club’s esteemed youth academy to play a big part in helping the Alex to gain promotion to League One last season.

He was crucial in the League Two Playoff final, scoring a wonder goal which reaffirmed his undoubted talent.
