Manchester United are keen on signing Sao Paulo schemer Lucas Moura, the club’s manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed.

The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a move for the Brazilian and in some quarters are even said to have agreed a fee for the player – but Ferguson has denied this.

He has instead remained cautious in his view of how the club’s interest in Moura is progressing – though he did concede that the 19-year-old is wanted at Old Trafford.

“We have not reached an agreement for the player”, said Ferguson at a press conference when asked about a move for Moura.

“We have shown an interest, but until such time as we can get a deal agreed we cannot say that he is our player”, added the Scot.

Signing Moura would be a genuine coup for the Red Devils and go some way towards making up for losing out on Eden Hazard to Chelsea earlier this summer.

Moura is rated as amongst the most promising prospects in Brazil and would join Shinji Kagawa and Nick Powell as new recruits at Manchester United in what is looking a major midfield rebuilding process.
