The transfer of Dutch defender Ron Vlaar to Aston Villa has been resurrected after the English Premier League side triggered a clause in his contract with a €4M bid.

Vlaar is now due in England on Monday, where he will undergo his medical, before putting the finishing touches to a three-year contract at Villa Park.

The 27-year-old had visited Aston Villa recently and held positive talks with manager Paul Lambert; but then the track went cold, with no bid arriving from the Premier League outfit.

Vlaar’s club Feyenoord were baffled and set a deadline for Aston Villa to make good on their interest. And when the deadline passed it seemed the Dutchman was remaining at De Kuip, a club he insisted are in his heart.

But Feyenoord have been powerless to prevent the defender’s exit given the English side’s bid of €4M.

And Vlaar has continued to be keen to move to Villa Park and test himself in the Premier League.

Vlaar had been under contract with Feyenoord until 2014 and the Dutch giants were desperate to keep hold of him this summer.
