Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has moved to stamp on talk that the Gunners have signed a new player, with speculation swirling around the club’s interest in Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin and Malaga winger Santi Cazorla.

The latter’s club Malaga confirmed that they fielded a bid of €20M for the 27-year-old, but insisted it has been rejected, with coach Manuel Pellegrini telling Arsenal that there is no chance of signing the Spaniard for such a paltry sum.

Now Wenger has explained that the English giants are not close to bringing in any new players at present, though the situation could change.

"We did not sign anybody today, this report is wrong", said Wenger to his club’s official site, directly addressing a suggestion Sahin has joined.

"We are not signing anybody at the moment – we are not close.

"In the future you never know."

Wenger was speaking after watching his side go down 2-0 to Manchester City in a pre-season friendly.
