AC Milan are pondering making a move for Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira, according to sources in Italy.

The Rossoneri are searching for a replacement for the departed Gennaro Gattuso and believe that Germany international Khedira would fit the bill.

Massimilano Allegri’s men are also encouraged by the fact that Real Madrid are pushing ahead with their pursuit of Luka Modric – and the Rossoneri think the arrival of the Croatian at the Bernabeu will reduce Khedira’s playing time.

It remains to be seen where Jose Mourinho plans to slot Modric, but even if Khedira’s time on the pitch is reduced, Milan face other obstacles to bringing the player to Italy.

With money tight at Milanello, affording the 25-year-old may be extremely challenging for the Rossoneri, although having pocketed €65M from selling Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva to Paris Saint-Germain, there is some cash for the Italian giants to spend.

Also unclear is what the Germany midfielder’s reaction would be towards moving to Milan.

Khedira has appeared happy at the Bernabeu and helped Real Madrid to claim the Spanish title from Barcelona last season.
