Spanish giants Barcelona are considering Manchester City man Kolo Toure as a summer reinforcement, according to El Mundo Deportivo.

The Blaugrana have been frustrated in their efforts to sign Javi Martinez from Athletic Bilbao, while new coach Tito Vilanova has been on the lookout for a defender or defensively minded midfielder.

With Martinez being priced out of a switch to the Camp Nou, the door may be open for the Catalan giants to approach Manchester City for Toure.

The Ivory Coast international has struggled for playing time at Eastlands and lost further ground in his bid for a first team spot by serving a six-month drug ban.

Toure has already been linked with an exit from Roberto Mancini’s Citizens this summer as Turkish Super Lig outfit Bursaspor spied a swoop for his services.

There seems little doubt that the former Arsenal man is available for transfer and the 31-year-old would surely jump at the chance to sign for Barcelona.

And for the Catalans, Toure could be a cut-price option.
