Carlo Ancelotti has insisted that the target for Paris Saint-Germain this season must be to win Ligue 1.

The Italian landed at the Parc des Princes midway through the last campaign, replacing Antoine Kombouare, who had left PSG on top of the Ligue 1 table.

But Ancelotti and co. could not resist an inspired surge from Montpellier and the French crown ended up at the Stade de la Mosson.

PSG have spent big again this summer, with the acquisitions of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva from AC Milan standing out above all others.

And the club’s target is nothing less than to win the title, with anything else being deemed a failure. It is something Ancelotti well appreciates.

"It is simple: last year we finished second in the league, this time we need to be first and to be competitive in the Champions League", said the Italian at a press conference.

"Nobody knows what is going to happen in the Champions League. We will try to be competitive, but we will see when it starts."
