Manchester United are firmly in the race to sign midfielder Nuri Sahin from Real Madrid.

Sahin is wanted by Arsenal and Galatasaray, though both sides are keen to take the Turkey international on a season-long loan from Los Blancos.

In contrast, according to Madrid-based daily Marca, Manchester United are only interested in taking Sahin on a permanent basis.

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has opened the door for Sahin to play his football elsewhere in the new season after an appreciation that the former Borussia Dortmund man is unlikely to enjoy a change in fortunes from the previous campaign.

Sahin managed just 128 minutes of game time in La Liga last season and that is something the 23-year-old needs to change to aid his continued development.

Mourinho has confirmed that he will aid Sahin’s departure, if that is what the midfielder desires, although whether the Portuguese had a permanent exit to Old Trafford in mind remains to be seen.

While the former Chelsea boss continues to rate Sahin, he also believes the player requires more maturity.
