Christian Poulsen has called time on his international career with Denmark.
The midfielder, who is currently a free agent at club level having parted company with Ligue 1 outfit Evian, believes the time is right to move aside for a new generation.
“The young players are coming through and my role in the team is no longer the same”, said Poulsen.
“Therefore I think it’s the right decision to leave my spot in the squad to new faces before the team begins a different cycle.”
Poulsen has played for some of the biggest clubs in world football, counting Sevilla, Juventus and Liverpool amongst his former sides.
The midfielder left Anfield last summer, moving to French club Evian.
