Inter are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur’s out-of-favour Mexican attacking midfielder Giovani dos Santos, according to sources in Italy.

The former Barcelona man has been in impressive form at the Olympic Games for Mexico and his lively performances have brought him to the attention of the Nerazzurri.

Inter believe that Dos Santos can be snared for as little as €5M, with the player desperate to exit White Hart Lane, where first team football has been at a premium.

Nerazzurri coach Andrea Stramaccioni is believed to have come to the conclusion that the 23-year-old could be a real asset for his side, with the player’s versatility across the attacking line having been pinpointed as allowing him to slot into a variety of positions.

Dos Santos joined Tottenham in 2008 from Barcelona and his capture was viewed as a genuine coup at the time.

He has struggled to make an impact at White Hart Lane though and has had three loan spells away from the club, at Ipswich Town, Galatasaray and Racing Santander.

While Dos Santos has expressed a desire to return to Spain, it is likely Italy would fit the bill for the Mexican too.

It has also been mooted in Italy that Inter may allow goalkeeper Julio Cesar to join Spurs in order to smooth the path for Dos Santos’ acquisition.
