Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler has admitted that he keeps a close eye on Spain’s La Liga, with particular attention being paid to Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Draxler has been rated as one of Schalke’s fastest improving players and the 18-year-old has already earned a senior cap for Germany.

The Ruhr giants, well aware of their starlet’s potential, have tied him down on a contract that runs until 2016, but Draxler is still being eyed by a number of the continent’s biggest clubs.

And should Barcelona or Real Madrid make an approach for the player, they would surely hold an advantage over other suitors, as Draxler himself has hinted.

"Spain has always interested me", the German told Sport 1.

"I follow the Spanish league very closely on television, especially Real Madrid and Barcelona.

"They play great football that is really entertaining."

However, Draxler ruled out any thoughts of an imminent switch to La Liga.

"Now I’m starting my second full season with the first team, so I am not one to talk to Real Madrid or Barcelona.

"I have a contract until 2016 and I hope to keep improving here."
