Neymar has told his Brazil team-mates that they can go down in the history books if they can secure the gold medal at the Olympics on Saturday.

Despite being a powerhouse, Brazil have never claimed the gold medal in the men’s Olympic football tournament, but now have a fine opportunity to do so.

Standing in front of Neymar and co. are an inspired Mexico side, a team the Santos striker is determined that the Selecao should not, under any circumstances, underestimate.

"I am satisfied with my performances and I am very happy to play for Brazil", Neymar told El Mundo Deportivo.

"I hope I can give even more during the last 90 minutes and that we can write history for our country.

"But we must be careful about Mexico. They have strong players and we respect them a lot."

If Brazil cannot take a first gold then the occasion would be classed as a major disappointment for Mano Menezes men, although they would have the 2016 Olympic Games on home turf in Rio to make amends.
