Arsenal have announced that they have come to an agreement with Manchester United for the sale of Dutch forward Robin van Persie.
The North London club informed the Arsenal fans about Van Persie’s sale to the Red Devils through a statement on the side’s official website.
“Arsenal Football Club can confirm that terms have been agreed for the transfer of Robin van Persie to Manchester United”, read the statement.
The statement also said that the player will meet with the Manchester United management at Old Trafford on Thursday in order to finalise the deal and to pass his medical – the final steps to becoming a Red Devils player.
“Van Persie will travel to Manchester on Thursday in order to agree personal terms and complete a medical ahead of the proposed move”, added the Gunners statement.
The announcement brings an end to a transfer saga that started with the forward’s declaration in July after Euro 2012 in which he confirmed that he would not extend his contract with the Gunners, which was due to expire in 2013.
The striker was constantly linked with Serie A champions Juventus and the Premier League giants Manchester City and Manchester United after his admittance that he wanted to move away from the Emirates Stadium.
After the Old Lady backed out of a deal and the Citizens remained quiet, Sir Alex Ferguson’s men became the favorites to sign the contract rebel Dutchman.
And after tough negotiations, the Arsenal board have given way in order to avoid losing the 29-year-old for free next summer.
