Southampton have agreed a deal to sign highly-rated Uruguayan midfielder Gaston Ramirez from Bologna.

The Premier League outfit have come to terms with the Rossoblu over the fee to be paid for the 21-year-old, while Ramirez has himself confirmed personal terms will not prove to be a problem.

Indeed, the attacking midfielder has beamed at the amount he will earn with the newly promoted English club – an amount he simply could not refuse.

Speaking to Italian daily Corriere dello Sport, the Uruguayan explained that he could still not be 100% over the deal, although he is confident.

“I’m not sure. Bologna will tell me tomorrow [today, ed.] whether I am going or not.

“Bologna has reached an agreement with Southampton. There are still a few details, but the clubs have reached an agreement in principle. And the English club has reached an agreement with me.”

And Ramirez explained that, financially, the offer from Southampton is simply delicious.

“It is the classic ‘you cannot refuse’ offer.

“I have got a four-year contract with some big numbers.

“They give me so much money – €2M net per year and €1M for signing.”

Ramirez has been persistently linked with Liverpool over the last 12 months, but it is Southampton who are set to snap up the Uruguay international, in what would be a coup.

The starlet found the back of the net eight times in Serie A last season and turned in a number of impressive performances.

He has also been on the shopping lists of Juventus, Napoli and Inter.
