Manchester United have completed the signing of Alexander Buttner from Eredivisie outfit Vitesse.

The left-back jetted in to Manchester yesterday to undergo medical tests with the Red Devils following the agreement of a fee between the two clubs.

Buttner had been close to joining Southampton earlier this summer, but will now make Old Trafford his home for at least the next five years, after signing a deal until 2017.

This defender is understandably overjoyed with the switch.

“It is one of the best days of my life”, exclaimed Buttner.

“It is a team I have admired for many years now and I can’t wait to join my team-mates and play my part in helping the club be successful.”

Buttner’s arrival has also pleased Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who dubbed the Dutchman “one of the best young left-backs in Europe”.

Buttner will now take time to settle into his new surroundings, well aware that France star Patrice Evra stands between him and a spot in the United starting eleven.
