Espanyol have completed the signing of Portuguese winger Simao Sabrosa from Turkish giants Besiktas and the player was quick to explain he knows what is expected of him in Barcelona.

The 32-year-old has penned a two-year contract with Espanyol and is familiar with Spanish football having played for Espanyol’s neighbours Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Now the winger is targeting helping his new club to secure European football through their La Liga finish this season.

"I come to help and together we can celebrate a new season", said the Portuguese, who pulled on an Espanyol shirt for his presentation.

"I am not a young man who comes to a club and has much to prove", added Simao, before revealing a converation he has had with coach Mauricio Ponchettino.

"He told me what he expects of me and I explained what I can give and offer the club.

"We have been clear throughout and now I have to work hard and score."

Simao first landed in Spain in 1999 as a promising youngster, signing for Barcelona from Sporting Lisbon.

He never quite made the grade at the Camp Nou however, and will now be keen to inflict pain on Barcelona as part of their local rivals Espanyol.
