Daniele De Rossi has insisted that his focus remains on Roma despite intense speculation that he is heading to join Manchester City.

In Italy it was claimed that the Azzurri midfielder would join up with the Citizens for a fee of between €30M and €35M, despite only having just penned a new contract with his beloved Giallorossi earlier this year.

Now De Rossi has addressed the transfer chatter head on and claimed there is nothing to it from his side. And while he accepts that clubs sometimes sell star players without the player’s knowledge, he does not seen that as being the case with him.

"I have always said that I am fine at Roma", announced the 29-year-old in a press conference.

"Of course, if the club were to tell me that they were selling me, I would assess the situation", he added, before looking at the sale of Alessandro Nesta by rivals Lazio in 2002, a player then considered a symbol of the side by the club’s supporters.

"I think that in the case of Nesta, Lazio had to sell because they were in a difficult place financially.

"But I think the situation is different. The club relies heavily on me. I signed a very important contract a few months ago."
