Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has praised the club’s new signing Angelo Henriquez.

The Red Devils recently completed a deal to take Henriquez from Chilean giants Universidad de Chile after he began to blossom in the club’s first team.

Ferguson has admitted to having had the striker on his radar for a number of years, with Henriquez even spending time at Old Trafford as a 15-year-old.

But United had to move quickly this summer as talk of rivals Manchester City starting to show serious interest in the now-18-year-old gripped Chile.

Ferguson is delighted to have snapped up Henriquez and beamed when speaking about his capture at a press conference earlier today.

"He came over when he was 15 and then 16. We kept in close contact with him in that respect and, when he got to 18, it was a matter of whether or not we left him for another year or brought him in", said the Scot.

"But he had such a good summer with Chile’s Under-20s, that we thought it wasn’t worth waiting. We may as well do it now.

"That took away a lot of interest from other clubs. We had the option on him, but options only last so long and we decided to take him in."

And the Manchester United boss is confident he has unearthed a gem.

"He’s quick and a good finisher and he has a terrific physique for a boy of 18. He should be here on Sunday."
