Besiktas are pushing ahead to sign free agent Royston Drenthe.

The Dutch winger’s contract with Real Madrid came to an end this summer and he is looking for pastures new.

Drenthe spent last season on loan at English Premier League outfit Everton and has been mooted as a target for AC Milan.

But now Drenthe looks close to joining Besiktas after the Turkish giants upped their efforts to sign the 25-year-old.

The Black Eagles recently lost Portuguese winger Simao Sabrosa to Espanyol and Drenthe could fit the bill as a replacement.

The speedy player started his career at Dutch side Feyenoord, before being scooped up by Real Madrid in 2007.

He never quite made the grade at the Bernabeu and was first loaned out in 2010 to Hercules before joining Everton last year.
