Jupp Heynckes has confirmed that he will stand down as Bayern Munich coach at the end of this season.

The 67-year-old believes that by the time the current campaign ends, it will be the right moment to pass on the torch to a new generation at the Allianz Arena.

And so, the man who led Bayern Munich to the Champions League final and German Cup final, combined with second place in the Bundesliga, last season, is set to savour his last campaign as boss of the Bavarians.

"Then I’ll close another chapter in my life", said Heynckes, when talking about his contract, which ends in 2013.

"I am not 37 any more", he added.

Heynckes is currently in his third spell in charge of Bayern Munich, having managed the side from 1987 until 1991 and in 2009.
