Olympiacos are believed to be close to securing a loan deal for Chelsea forward Gael Kakuta.

The young Frenchman has been interesting Marseille and Lyon, but neither of the Ligue 1 clubs have as yet struck an agreement with Chelsea.

Now Greek champions Olympiacos are in pole position and sources in Greece have indicated that the 21-year-old is on the verge of joining up at the club.

The deal for Kakuta would take the form of a season-long loan and solve the player’s problem of limited playing time at Stamford Bridge.

Kakuta spent last year away from Chelsea, with the first part of the 2011/12 season at Bolton Wanderers, before a switch to his native France to complete the campaign at Dijon.

The former Lens youth team player impressed at Les Rouges, managing four goals in 12 games with a series of lively performances – he could not though help the team to survive in Ligue 1.

Kakuta’s chances of a spot in the Chelsea starting eleven this season look extremely slim, with the Champions League winners having snapped up Eden Hazard, Marko Marin and Oscar already this summer.
