Manchester City are pushing to sign young defender Matija Nastasic from Fiorentina and are prepared to throw Stefan Savic into the mix to close the deal.

According to Italian radio station Radio Blu, the Citizens were willing to offer La Viola €18M to snap up Nastasic, but have now changed their bid to €12M plus Savic.

The English champions are thought to rate 19-year-old Nastasic extremely highly and are willing to push the boat out to ensure he lands at Eastlands before the summer transfer window slams shut.

The Serbian stopper was brought in by Fiorentina just last summer from Partizan Belgrade.

He was instantly handed first team chances and clocked up 24 appearances for the Italian side in Serie A last season, showing clear signs of his potential and even chipping in with two goals.

Nastasic played in Fiorentina’s opening Serie A game of the new season this the weekend, a 2-1 victory over Udinese.

Whether La Viola are prepared to sell the highly-rated 19-year-old to Manchester City remains to be seen, but by offering Savic as part of the deal, the Citizens would cushion the blow Fiorentina would undoubtedly suffer somewhat.

Savic, another former Partizan Belgrade player, joined Manchester City last summer, but only clocked up 11 appearances in the Premier League in the 2011/12 campaign.
