AC Milan have ended their interest in bringing midfielder Kaka back to the San Siro after Real Madrid insisted on seeking a transfer fee for the Brazilian.

The Rossoneri had been hopeful that Los Blancos would release Kaka in order for him to join his former club.

But paying a fee for Kaka, in addition to affording his wages, puts the creative midfielder beyond reach for a Milan side where money is tight.

"The operation [to sign] Kaka is over", said Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani.

"It’s finished", he added.

"The operation is too risky."

It remains to be seen whether Milan will land a big name before the transfer window closes on Friday, to appease fans still disappointed at the sales of Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
