Real Madrid have made Lille right-back Mathieu Debuchy their primary target in a bid to push through a deal for the France international before the transfer window shuts, according to France Football.
Los Blancos boss Jose Mourinho was non-committal earlier today when asked whether the Spanish champions’ business in the summer window was done.
And now it seems that is because Real Madrid are looking seriously at buying Debuchy from Lille.
Debuchy has been linked with a departure from Rudi Garcia’s men this summer, with English Premier League outfit Newcastle United pushing the hardest to gain his signature.
Alan Pardew’s men have had bids of €5M and €6M rejected by Lille, much to Debuchy’s frustration, but have been mooted as plotting a return for the France star before the transfer window closes.
Lille have stuck to the view that Debuchy cannot be sold this late in the window because there is precious little time to buy a replacement, but should the Ligue 1 side exit the Champions League tomorrow night, that position could change.
Garcia’s men find themselves 1-0 down to Danish club FC Copenhagen in the playoff round.
But Newcastle may have to battle Real Madrid if they do make a late dash for Debuchy, with Los Blancos very keen on the Frenchman.
It is thought that Mourinho’s side would have little trouble meeting Lille’s €10M asking price for the defender and could soon submit an official offer.
