Southampton Confirm Gaston Ramirez Signing

Friday, 31st August, 2012

Southampton have announced the purchase of 21-year-old attacking midfielder Gaston Ramirez from Bologna.

Saints boss Nigel Adkins had admitted earlier today that the Premier League side were close to buying the Uruguayan, but stressed a few final details needed to be ironed out first.

This has now been done and Ramirez is a Southampton player, much to Adkins’ delight.

"Great credit to everyone because we have a young, exciting talent joining us who is one of the best around", beamed the Southampton manager.

"There is a lot of ambition at the football club and we are all delighted that Gaston is going to come and join us", he added.

Ramirez has been on the shopping list of some of the biggest sides in Europe over the last 12 months, with Inter, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Napoli and Juventus all linked with a swoop.
