We all like to dabble in a little football betting from time to time, and this weekend offers some interesting matches to get stuck into. I have been casting my eyes over the English football fixture list, and have come up with a treble that may prove profitable, as well as a few other outsiders who might spring a surprise. Whether you choose to follow or not, these are my tips for this weekend’s matches:

Premier League – Tottenham Hotspur to win at home to Norwich City (1.40)

Tottenham finally said goodbye to Luke Modric this week as the Croatian midfielder sealed a move to Real Madrid, and while Spurs will no doubt miss his creativity the addition of Moussa Dembele from Fulham looks like a good bit of business. Both sides have stuttered so far this season, but I have a feeling the London side will register their first win of the campaign with a little bit to spare. Norwich created plenty of chances against QPR last weekend, but they only managed one goal; I can’t see them managing any more than that this week.

Premier League – Manchester City to win at home to Queens Park Rangers (1.20)

Last season, this fixture was played on the final Sunday and City recorded a thrilling last-minute victory that brought them the Premier League title. In May, it was close and extremely tense, but I don’t think that will be the case this Saturday. Carlos Tevez appears to be back to his old self again now, which is good news for manager Roberto Mancini after the injury suffered by Sergio Aguerro. QPR let five in on the first day of the season; they could do so again weekend.

League One – Crawley Town to win at home to Leyton Orient (1.73)

Although most Crawley fans will admit the club needs a little time to bed into life in League One, two wins in their first three matches will perhaps have shown they are capable of holding their own. In addition to that, an excellent Capital One Cup victory against Bolton on Tuesday night will have given them even more to cheer about. Leyton Orient are unlikely to be whipping boys for anyone this season, but a poor start has left them with the dreaded ‘played two, lost two’ beside their name.

The Treble:

Tottenham Hotspur (1.40)
Manchester City (1.20)
Crawley Town (1.73)

Total return for £5 stake = £32.77

In addition to this treble, there are several other interesting bets in this weekend’s fixture list:

Championship – Crystal Palace v Sheffield Wednesday – Both teams to score (1.67)

Although it’s early days in the campaign, bottom place in the league table will concern even the most optimistic Palace fan right now. The Eagles did exceptionally well last season, but they might be in for a tougher nine months in 2012-13. They have scored and conceded in every game so far, and they stand every chance of doing so again. Sheffield Wednesday have made an excellent start and currently lie in second place. I can’t foresee the result of this match, but I think both sides will find the onion bag.

Premier League – Michu to score for Swansea City against Sunderland (3.35)

The Welsh side have started the season in excellent form, and the transition from Brendan Rodgers to Michael Laudrup appears to be a seamless one so far. The team play the same positive flowing football based on a fast passing game, and Michu, who signed from Rayo Vallecano in July, is looking more than capable of getting on the end of the chances they create. Sunderland have a resolute defence and like all Martin O’Neill sides they are extremely well-organised, but I can’t see them keeping the Spanish striker at bay.

Premier League – Everton to win away to West Bromwich Albion (2.50)

There is every chance that this will be a close one, because both sides have impressed so far. Last week at Aston Villa, Everton came out of the blocks like Usain Bolt being chased by an angry Essex lion, and they’re highly likely to try the same tactics at The Hawthorns. West Brom are no mugs, however, and in Steve Clarke they have a manager who knows how to get the best out of his team. This could go either way, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the Merseysiders will take the points.
