Former England striker Michael Owen has signed for Stoke City.

As a free agent, having been released by Manchester United at the end of last season, the forward could move outside of the transfer window.

And having been linked with a number of clubs, it is the Potters that Owen has decided to play his football for next season.

Owen revealed just yesterday that he was raring to go, claiming through his official Twitter account that "the tools of my trade are stacked and ready to go" and linking to a picture of his boots.

The 32-year-old will be hoping to wear his boots in Premier League action more this season than last with Manchester United; Owen managed just one Premier League appearance in 2011/12.

Keen to play on, despite being released by the Red Devils, Owen has insisted that he still has much to offer and Stoke will hope the ex-England player can offer much to their attack.

It is not clear what length Owen has signed for at the Britannia Stadium or whether there is a "pay as you play" element to the deal.
