New Manchester United signing Alexander Buttner admits his time at Old Trafford has been like a whirlwind and has exceeded his expectations so far.

Buttner was a surprise selection for the Red Devils in Saturday’s Premier League clash against Wigan at Old Trafford – and he played his part in the 4-0 win, even helping himself to a goal on his debut.

It was all a memorable experience for the young Dutchman, who was snapped up by Sir Alex Ferguson in the summer from Vitesse.

"It has all happened a bit fast", Buttner told NES.

"You hope to get some minutes [on the pitch], but I was suddenly in the team", he added.

"I heard about it first on Friday from Rene Meulensteen (assistant coach) and then from Ferguson."

And Buttner stressed that the change which has taken place in his career is simply astonishing.

"When I stood on the pitch on Saturday, I thought at the same time ‘how have I ended up here?’

"I’m just going to enjoy playing football and I really enjoyed it. I’m, learning every day here, players like Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes are so good.

"Patrice Evra is also very much involved with me and is trying to make me better. I am very well taken care of."

It remains to be seen whether Buttner will again get the vote from Ferguson for Manchester United’s midweek clash against Galatasaray in the Champions League, but the Dutchman has already taken a vital step forward in his career at the English giants.
